The Worst Job for a Baker…EverMay 24, 2010
I stumbled across this on the interwebs today, and it’s so weird and mind-boggling that I had to share it with you. It’s the Pentagon’s official recipe for brownies. Yes, brownies. In case you thought the government was using its time wisely, here’s evidence to the contrary. Go ahead and skim through it – there are marvelous sections like
“188.8.131.52 Nuts, walnuts, shelled. Shelled walnut pieces shall be of the small piece size classification, shall be of a light color, and shall be U.S. No. 1 of the U.S. Standards for Shelled English Walnuts. A minimum of 90 percent, by weight, of the pieces shall pass through a 4/16-inch diameter round hole screen and not more than 1 percent, by weight, shall pass through a 2/16-inch diameter round hole screen. the shelled walnuts shall be coated with an approved food grade antioxidant and shall be of the latest season’s crop.”
“3.3.5 Brownie coating. The brownies shall be completely enrobed with a continuous uniform chocolate coating (see 3.2.14) in an amount which shall be not less than 29 percent by weight of the finished product.“
The whole thing is like that…it’s hilarious, in a head-shaking way. I’d sure hate to be the guy who messes up a batch of these babies. Read it all here. Enjoy!
