I Eats Me Spinach

January 10, 2011

In our potically correct world, I wonder if they remade Popeye (which at some point I’m sure they will) if they’d make him speak with proper grammar.  Hopefully they’d keep his love of spinach in tact, although as a child Popeye’s infatuation with the leafy vegetable never increased my desire for it, probably because my muscles never quadrupled in size right after consuming it.  Spinach is one of the best things you can eat, healthwise, but a lot of people are turned off by its bitter taste.  So for picky eaters, I present to you a ridiculously fast and easy way to enjoy spinach.  The soy sauce pretty much negates the bitterness, and the garlic adds great flavor.  It’s an obvious choice to accompany any Asian dish, but there’s no reason you couldn’t serve it with just about anything.  Enjoy!

The MHK’s Super Side of Spinach

(serves 4)

12 oz. spinach leaves, torn into smaller pieces (or use baby spinach)

4-6 cloves garlic, chopped

1/3 cup soy sauce

Heat a wok or skillet over medium heat.  Add half the spinach and half the soy sauce.  Stir until spinach begins to wilt.  Add the rest of the spinach, soy sauce, and all the garlic.  Stir-fry until spinach is just wilted and garlic is evenly distributed.  Serve and eat!
